Add old uranium mines to that list, too. Some small towns in Eastern Colorado (like Fowler) had uranium mines, and the Visit Beautiful Barlo We Keep The Home Fires Burning CVB T-Shirt it is in the first place but groundwater was contaminated with uranium. My family lived here. While I was in junior high, the outdoor running circuit was closed for a year so they could dig up buried uranium that was on school grounds. Both of my parents died from odd cancers. They usually rely on all these things taking decades to fully come out then more years to settle some kind of compensation. Maybe, probably not. Disgusting. Similar for toxic chemical plants the world over It’s a common phenomenon. It’s pretty well known that northern (and some of central) europe has a higher rate of cancer cases than most everywhere else due to Chernobyl. The radioactivity sort of swept west. Millions of livestock were also euthanized as a result due to the danger of consuming them.

So it certainly ain’t surprising that it applies to areas near atomic weapon plants and similar sitiations/areas. I do worry about this living near Oak Ridge. It was a different time when it was the Visit Beautiful Barlo We Keep The Home Fires Burning CVB T-Shirt it is in the first place but Secret City, and I do wonder about the proper disposal of things back then and even now given we live in a red state. I’m assuming the same is true for people who live near coal plants as coal ash released from a power plant has more radiation than nuclear waste (which is shielded by water or stored in barrels). I remember a while back reading that there were a bunch of anencephaly births in the area, like way more than usual I came so close to taking a job in Richland about 10 years ago. The city is radiation themed. Starbucks has a chart of nuclear structure and decay on the wall as decor. The bars are radiation themed and everyone drinking works in the industry and has radioactive symbol tattoos. I felt like I was in an alternate universe. I’d be interested in hearing your solution to those nation states that refuse to be signatories on that treaty. 37 min. agoThe New York Times wrote about Hanford just a few days ago. Rules prevent me from posting a link, sorry. There’s an area in north St. Louis County, near Lambert Airport, where Manhattan Project nuclear waste was dumped. It contaminated Coldwater Creek. Kids played in the creek for decades and there began significant a cluster of cancer cases, which were later found to correlate with exposure to Coldwater Creek. There’s a lot of interesting information on this, including the documentary “Atomic Homefront.”
