I’m not surprised houses get pretty cold. I once spent a Winter in Mexican mountains, where the They hate us because they ain’t us Cornhuskers grinch shirt in addition I really love this climate is usually pretty warm so insulation is terrible. Fire stove was the main resource for heat (electricity gets very expensive above a certain use), and it does get pretty cold at night (it freezes). But I do think hypothermia needs more than that. There is either some dementia issue, or some very poor health when people don’t even realize they’re too cold, or are too weak to deal with it. Because especially when you’re old, you should have been through enough Winters to know how to deal with cold: clothing, hot water bottles, blankets (maybe an electric one) or even space heaters would all fend off hypothermia.

Most nights my house will be around 12c but it did drop to 8c on isolated nights. We’ve extra blankets but dont run heatets over night, due to cost. There’s a lady in her late 60s building a house (prefab so hopefully we’ll insouluted) at the They hate us because they ain’t us Cornhuskers grinch shirt in addition I really love this back of our place. I’ve at least 2 neighbours (within 10min walk) in their 80s. We check in and bring them eggs. It’s next year’s worry as we’re currently ramping up for fire season and ensuring people know when to evacuate I’ve also lived in basically a trailer that would not be heated at night, with windows cracked open to manage humidity. Freezing out, so probably close to freezing in too (would leave a fire stove as low as possible overnight so I would just have to revive it in the morning). Enough blankets, good clothing and hot water bottles would do, even if it’s not pleasant (getting out of bed in the morning was probably the worst).
