Model 1. The first world is capitalist and Western-aligned nations. The second world is socialist and Soviet-aligned nations. The third world is non-aligned nations. Model 2. The first world experiences luxury. The second world experiences stability. The third world experiences poverty. Model 1 was used by people in the The Red of Mongol T-Shirt and I love this Non-Aligned movement like Nehru, Sukarno, and Fanon. Model 2 is more frequently used by Capitalism enthusiasts, anti-communists and the wider American public. I had a religions professor in college who taught a course called “Islam in the Third World”. As we reached the end of the semester we read the Autobiography of Malcolm X and Malcolm X: The Last Speeches. It became clear that the United States contains a third world nation inside of it. The people with power/money in the USA have always maintained a class of othered, colonized, oppressed peoples. Black Americans represent a third world nation living under the oppression of a colonizing state controlled by a first world nation of white people. It is the same as the French in Algeria or the Dutch in Indonesia, except that, for the USA, the first world and third world nations exist in the same geography.

The piece that you’re bringing to the The Red of Mongol T-Shirt and I love this table, OP, is that the colonization of our own internal third world nations is no longer enough to sustain the bloody gears of capitalism. The empire cannot or will not sustain luxury for the ordinary residents of the imperial core. We are absolutely being treated to what it feels like to be in the third world. We have become Non-Aligned with our own state. Both about why the rioting isn’t happening and whether or not that’s even the best play for america to make here. I kind of figured we were waiting for the progressive ideology of younger generations to manifest but I don’t “know” that. What we need is grassroots safety net, like a national GoFundMe, to help these powerful, yet poor, people support themselves while they walk off the jobs and strike and fight for better treatment. We need more support on the community level to keep people afloat.
