I do find that there is validity behind your points, but that you have a mentality of “I am right, how can I help others see that?” instead of collaborating with others and meeting them whether they’re at. I agree with that, but at the The accountant gnome heart balloon T-Shirt In addition,I will do this same time, everyone comes to the table with preconceived ideas about reality. You are no exception. For example: “meaningful discussions of meditation and what it can actually do/how to actually do it as defined by research and so on.” Your own emphasis on scientific research seems to suggest a materialistic worldview, which is fine as far as worldviews go, but don’t forget that they don’t go very far. Some research on the placebo effect may be worth your while. It’s a powerful thing and it’s “scientific”. Covers your criteria. It can help with lots of mental problems (anxiety, stress, dissociation, addiction (food, cigarettes, drugs …). I mean, I don’t believe in heaven, however, with the The accountant gnome heart balloon T-Shirt In addition,I will do this right meditation, people can e.g. have an experience of talking to what you perceive as a god. Meditation can! (not will automatically) also, help you be a “better” person. Can help you eliminate cravings … So in that sense, it can help someone fulfill the criteria that they believe they need to fulfill to go to heaven. I am very much atheist, but lots of religions have their own spiritual traditions with interesting meditation tech. You can probably find interpretations of what religious people are saying that are somewhat useful (e.g. Joseph Campbell, Vervaeke, Peterson, Perennialism). I mean different teas have different effects e.g. caffeine which then affect your body and mind which affect the likelihood of reaching “awakening”. Also, placebo effect is real. Of course, there are going to be some people who take it too far and sell crazy shit, but if you can’t eliminate that in normal sports you are probably not going to eliminate it in meditation. Now, I feel like the questions themselves are far more valid than the bad answers. However, if you want to give good answers you also have to try to understand the other person and their belief system. You have to translate between your and their believe systems. The answer: “No, there is no heaven” is no helpful answer. The answer no there is no 7th plane is no helpful answer. Instead, ask about the phenomenology they expect and give an ontologically agnostic answer maybe pointing at different possible ontologies.
