This biggest wow factor when I was chatting with a Puerto Rican was that they can’t vote in elections…. Unless they live in another state. It is no (federal) tax, isn’t it? My understanding is majority of PR would prefer to continue to not pay taxes and not have the Supernatural Dean Winchester Mug Shot T-Shirt in other words I will buy this vote than the alternative (statehood). If I’m wrong, would love to see the latest poll. Polls about this are always pointless because one side always boycotts the poll so we have no idea how many people are actually on that side. The Island is a black hole for federal funds. Just look shit up at GAO, IRS, Census, and even Congressional reports online. Its not a secret. It hurts ppls pride, but truth doesn’t care about feelings. I’ll be honest, I didn’t know anything about Puerto Rico until I went to army boot camp and ran into 30% of our battery speaking Spanish. They were some of the best of us and afterwards I never understood why they weren’t treated as such. They hated the cold though I used to tell MAGA’s types during Trump’s presidency that the president of Puerto Rico was a lazy fucking moron. I had PR friends that begged me to go there and visit. Place is beautiful and we spent a week In Vieques too. People were really nice and laid back. I speak a little Spanish and always respect the people of the land I’m in. Even though they are Americans, they have their own culture which should be respected. I don’t get how that is so hard even when they are in contiguous US. Not only is that, but Puerto Rico is such an incredible place. History, culture, geography, food, peoples… all Americans should be proud of Puerto Rico, and I hope it someday becomes a state.

I’ve had the Supernatural Dean Winchester Mug Shot T-Shirt in other words I will buy this opportunity to visit your island multiple times, PR has some of the kindest and friendliest people in the entire US. I live and work for a city that has a significant Puerto Rican population. The constantly have to remind my coworkers, who deal directly with the public that Puerto Ricans are Americans as much and them and me. I’m Puerto Rican and outside of Florida most Americans I’ve spoken to don’t realize that Puerto Rico is part of the US or where Puerto Rico is in relation to the US. Half of the people I spoke to thought I was Mexican once they heard my name. I’m half white as well so it makes things really confusing for some of our unaware/uneducated/prejudiced fellow citizens. I mean I’m pretty sure Americans also don’t realize this about other places (and I’m sure I’m ignorant too) like Guam and US Virgin Islands etc.
