The unknown is whether (a) it’s a scam of some sort, or (b) it’s not really a scam but they’re going to make you cancel and then not hold up their end of the Some of us grew up watching Clint eastwood the cool ones still do shirt in other words I will buy this bargain with the $500. If they’ve been on Airbnb for awhile and have a positive review history I tend to doubt it’s an outright scam. I don’t know how much they could do with the bank info you would be providing them, it’s the same info you provide when you write someone a check. Assuming it’s not a scam and their goal is just to stay out of trouble with Airbnb, I doubt they would stiff you on the gift card, because you could just report them to Airbnb. I will add that this is all against Airbnb’s terms of service (host asking guest to cancel) and you’re well within your rights to refuse their request, but know that you’re probably going to get canceled on and be without a reservation either way. If this was an honest mistake and it’s all on the up-and-up, the host is offering you a mutually beneficial way to keep them out of trouble with Airbnb. This sub tends to be pretty anti-host in this sort of situation and the usual advice is to make the host cancel (which is almost always the right choice), but if you’re being offered decent compensation and you trust that the compensation is going to come through, the only reason to refuse it is if it’s worth losing out on $500 just to have the host punished for inconveniencing you.

Just on the Some of us grew up watching Clint eastwood the cool ones still do shirt in other words I will buy this first part, I’m listed on Airbnb and VRBO. They auto sync and in 5 years never had an overlap, I check every time because it takes longer than the time between check out and check in (6 hours) to clean the house. I have a one day buffer and only one servers has buffer days as an option. I was the host of a tiny house village for a while and we listed on both Air Bnb and VRBO and they were supposed to sync, but i did something wrong and ended up double booking 2 of our 6 units for the same week. It was a mess and all my fault. The “glitch in the system” is likely that they have the property on multiple services for booking at the same time. This screams SCAM. Probably not double booked (if the booking was even real), but just wanted access to your bank account. Good for you for not falling for it.
