If the party wasn’t offered and actually scheduled, then I would suggest OP to go. But their boss offered. Lol. What world do you live in where choosing to not have a farewell party plays absolutely any part in your future career trajectory? Being sociable has all the upside and no downside. You will only regret not making the connections you can leverage. It’s not about what you know, it’s about who you know. And unfortunately, taking your advice only leads to connections being lost and not maintained. You can disagree all you want, you are objectively wrong and will be stunted in your career if you do not push yourself out of your comfort zone to do things you normally wouldn’t do. You deserve peace and to peace tf out on your own terms- controlling what you’re exposed for the remaining of your time there. Put you first and look up the “Let Them” mentality by Mel Robbins — it’s gives you power in situations surrounding toxic people who try to control the narrative around your name. If the toxic people don’t show up, how is this a problem? Not only they are toxic they’re idiots as they are missing free lunch.
