According to the Retro Indiana Jones T-Shirt moreover I love this local fire department, the fire department’s incident logs from September 1986, which could contain more detailed information about a fire incident, were destroyed by a fire in their archives in September 1991 Pac beads are approximately spherical nuclear fuel particles. Pac beads were used, for example, in the spherical fuel elements of the THTR-300 nuclear power plant in Hamm-Uentrop. The diameters of such beads are on the order of a few hundredths of a millimeter to one millimeter. Various groups involved in the cause research as well as individuals, for example the Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW), have found beads in the soil as well as on thatched roofs in the Elbmarsch area. The findings occurred in varying concentrations around the Krümmel nuclear power plant. The suspected fire of 1986 is being considered as the source of this contamination. Microspheres were found around THTR-300 in Hamm and played a role in the discussion about a strikingly increased incidence of thyroid cancer. According to a report by the state government signed by Environment Minister Johannes Remmel in 2013, however, the microspheres were made of iron oxide, such as those produced during welding work.

In 2004, the Retro Indiana Jones T-Shirt moreover I love this six resigned members (of the Expert Commission Leukemia Schleswig-Holstein) around former chairman Otmar Wassermann identified “secretly kept special nuclear experiments on the GKSS site” as the cause of the accumulation that had occurred since 1989.[20] Munich radiation physician Edmund Lengfelder, one of the resigned scientists, insisted to the Süddeutsche Zeitung in 2004: “The commission had found millimeter-sized ceramic pellets in the vicinity of GKSS and Krümmel that contained nuclear fuel. They could have been used to make miniaturized atomic bombs. The pellets had apparently been released during a fire in 1986 and scattered over the landscape.”[20] Lengfelder alleges secret experiments in which a millimeter-sized bead of plutonium 239 is compressed by means of a laser pulse at the focal point of a ceramic ellipsoid to such an extent that a chain reaction occurs and the energy corresponding to an explosion of about 500 to 1000 kilograms of TNT explosive is released. A found mixture of fission and activation products, transuranics (plutonium and americium) and other nuclear fuels (enriched uranium and thorium derivatives) should indicate this.[21] Similar beads of thorium had been produced in Hanau for the fuel elements of the planned high-temperature reactor.[21]
