Americans have a bit different evaluation of human life. For example, shootings and murder, or no-go zones in population centers are normalized, while in random EU country, a murder, lost person or whatever is taken very seriously and there’s no general apathy towards human life like you’d have in US. With this, “everybody helping everybody” mentality is weaker as well – as people class themselves more as “have’s” and “have-nots”, and wouldn’t want to pay their taxes to support everyone. Add a lot of propaganda and lobbying from insurance companies (and medical system itself) and education system that’s been broken for nearly all of 300 years of US history and it’d be quite hard to sell universal healthcare. People can’t want a thing they don’t understand, and health is pretty precious thing, so they’d be quite unwilling to risk/experiment with it.
