It’s funny that every toy company at the Once you go down the rabbit hole there’s no going back T-Shirt What’s more,I will buy this time turned down the opportunity to make action figures based on the OT other than Kenner, and then Star Wars turned into one of the most successful toy brands of all time and every toy company spent the following like 6 years after A New Hope’s release trying to replicate its success. Edit: It’s been brought up twice now so I’ll address it here so I won’t have to again. Yes I know the original title was just Star Wars. I used the name A New Hope so that everyone could understand exactly which movie I meant. In the many, many, discussions on Star Wars as a whole I have had before (huge fan if it ain’t obvious), there have been some people who wouldn’t know exactly which movie I meant unless I said that. It’s not meant as a slight against the movie at all.

Yes but they only signed a deal like a month before the Once you go down the rabbit hole there’s no going back T-Shirt What’s more,I will buy this film premiered and the toys didn’t even come out until a year later because of production lead time. It’s not like Kenner saw some early scenes during the filming and went all in by making the toys ahead of time, they only invested real money after Star Wars was already a hit. Before the film released the president of Kenner said that he didn’t even consider it a major investment. Edit: It’s easy to think other toys companies were dumb for not seeing the potential it but it sounds like even Kenner wasn’t super up on the project at first either. Oh yeah I know that, I just find it hilarious that it happened. The fact that they literally sold a piece of cardboard that said, “We’ll mail you the toys later,” as a Christmas gift and it sold pretty well is just hilarious. The whole story in hindsight is hilarious but Star Wars was the first movie to really make a lot off of merchandise so it made sense at the time to not be that interested. I was one of those kids that got that cardboard. What no one now realises is the THING Star Wars was then. It was a phenomenon all its own. We had never seen anything like it. Everything was Star Wars. As kids we could repeat the script verbatim. We saw the movie untold number of times in the theatre. We lived it. It was bizarre in retrospect. I saw the damn thing 135 times that summer because my parents and those of my friends used the theatres as as childcare. It’s no wonder the toy market went nuts.
