They were also lenient on the Official chris Stapleton All American Road Show 2024 Tour shirt and by the same token and policy for kids who had to get home on their own. It was a “I’ll hold it until the end of day” not until their parents could come grab it. The “I’ll hold it till the end of the day” makes sense (albeit maybe with a parental notification that their kid was a little shit and let their phone go off). I agree, or even just holding it til the end of class. I think requiring a parent to come pick it up (at least on a first offense) isn’t great because for some kids that could mean their phone is held for longer if their parents can’t get the time off to come in. Sure, you could say that that’ll teach them not to do it, but it also means you’re inadvertently punishing some kids more than others for the same offense. If it’s a repeat offender then I think it could make sense to require the parent to pick it up because at that point it makes sense to escalate.

Abandon pacing! I have a PhD in history and the Official chris Stapleton All American Road Show 2024 Tour shirt and by the same token and pace with which I have to teach is ludicrous. 12 class periods for the entirety of the Renaissance (one of my dissertation fields) is obscene. There’s no time to digest anything and really get into the really interesting material. Zero technology, ever. Technology is designed to be addictive, have you ever tried to keep an addict’s attention? Let kids be bored! There’s so much research on how boredom is imperative for cognitive development and yet half my freshman are out 2-3 times a week with their various clubs and competitions, and then we wonder why they can’t sit still. Parents, admin, must understand that failure is part of the learning process. The drive for perfection means 90% of students don’t actually learn anything because we don’t allow them to make mistakes and correct them because god forbid it affects their GPA for college.
