If you can still see yourself handling all this, and life still looks better in Europe, you may want to move. For me, it was a gradual process of a school trip, to extended study abroad, to business trips, to now living as an expat For nearly a decade. It was work and gradual adjustment along the way, and now I can’t see myself ever moving back. Absolutely this, and not only do they not go away, they in some ways become much more difficult if you’re adding a new language, new cultural norms and attitudes, and expectations on how things work into the mix. A lot of things that are simple and second nature in our own culture become really time-consuming and effortful in a new one – like what is the norm on paying bills in my new country? Where do I pay them? How do I change a utility service? All of those things that are annoying in your native country can become downright daunting in a foreign one, especially if the language barrier is there. This gets amplified when it’s applied to making new friends and learning to actually assimilate into a new culture.
