I’m an expat, every time I return to my home country to visit family and friends for the summer, I feel the same. Same. I’m American but have lived in Japan most of my adult life, almost 15 years. While there are aspects of Japanese culture that I disagree with and I don’t think it’s for everyone (especially those from individualistic societies), I feel stressed out and on edge every time I return to the US to visit family. People are confrontational and always want to hear your opinion, always talking about politics, always telling you to take a stance on things. I respect and admire those who have strong beliefs however I’m not cut out for that. I also have a fear of driving and some other things that made living in the US difficult, so I’m much more comfortable in a large Asian city.

I thought omg it has already started and I haven’t even got on the plane yet, the month I spent in the Philippines was so chill, and every Filipino I met was always respectful and polite and then I got that reminder of what was waiting for me after my 20 hour flight back home it’s really hard to deal with.
