I dragged my bike for probably about 45 min home. Along the Life Is A Book And There Are A Thousand Pages I Have Not Yet Read girl shirt in other words I will buy this way a guy in a suit refused to let me use a pen to write down their plate number, saying I’d steal the pen. The cops found the teens and decided to tell me, a young, injured child, they’d arrest me for riding my bike on the sidewalk if I didn’t drop it. I ended up having to go to the hospital because the end of the handlebar jammed into my neck and bruised it right up and I cracked my head off the sidewalk, and my bike was ruined. I had a similar run in when I was a kid. If my mom had a bad day at work, she would come home and take it out on me. One day she got crafty and started hitting me with an extension cable. I was covered in blood and I wasn’t able to walk when she was done. A couple days after it happened, I went to the police and tried to report her. I was 11 or 12 at the time. The cop told me that I was a young boy and probably needed the discipline. I pulled down my pants and showed him what she did. He threatened to charge me with indecent exposure. He then took me home and told my mom what I did. I tried to kill myself that summer. Finally after that, a judge ordered custody to my dad where I was able to get on a healthy path. Of course that was almost 30 years ago now but I still resent cops.

They’ll call 375 of their friends and sit outside doing nothing but waste time and tase people trying to help for hours. I’m lucky enough that my “bad cop” story is more funny than traumatic. I still remember it pretty well though, even if it was back in grade school. We had a “meet the Life Is A Book And There Are A Thousand Pages I Have Not Yet Read girl shirt in other words I will buy this police” day or something like that, I don’t remember the exact context. But we had a bunch of “fun” police-related activities, like being told that drugs are bad and that all strangers want to kill us. One of the “activities” was a fingerprinting station. They fingerprinted, with names and birthdays, every single kid in my school. Of course, it was utter chaos because you can’t coat a grade school kid’s hands in ink and expect them to not immediately begin touching everything they can (the cops, the teachers, the fingerprint slips, each other’s faces…)
