It’s not your job to give him a kick up the Kevin Knox II American professional basketball player for the Detroit Pistons NBA T-Shirt Also,I will get this arse, but likewise I don’t think you need to make him feel like shit just to make it clear you’re moving on with your life. I think it’s perfectly fine to just phase people out of your life, personally. It’s not nice when it happens to you, but you know that’s what’s happening and someone telling you why they don’t like you will genuinely make you feel worse. Living at home with your mum shouldn’t really be seen as a blot on your character these days. We have a housing crisis. Lots of people live at home with mum in their 30s that aren’t complete losers. Yeah, if you’re living an independent life, fair enough. If you’re rolling out of bed at 4pm on a Saturday saying to your mum, “Where’s this dinner, then?” I think it’s reasonable to judge someone. I have a brother like this and used to feel similarly that my mother didn’t set him up for success. More recently I’ve come to realise that he is a grown ass man and blaming the mother is totally unfair. H s old enough to realise his behaviour is unhealthy and chooses to do nothing about it. It’s not easy but it is necessary. I’m in no way saying he shouldn’t sort his life out, I’m just also saying as a parent it is your responsibility to prepare your children for independence and push them to face the big scary world. I am a mum myself with two boys so I see her enabling behaviour perhaps with some clarity. And it is a kind of stunting behaviour to do everything for everyone in your family and never push them to do anything themselves. I know for a fact if he moved out she’d go round to clean. I think they’re quite codependent. Her daughter, now in her early 20s, is the same.
