Because while he should be more involved, he isn’t. They’re a quite old fashioned in their approaches so the Ausar Thompson American professional basketball player for the Detroit Pistons NBA T-Shirt Apart from…,I will love this parenting has both been left to and taken over by her. She could have stopped doing his laundry a decade ago but has convinced herself that he’s fragile and needs more time. He’s far from fragile, he’s kind of an arsehole. Also people getting at me for blaming her, she’s a very close friend, closer than he is, she knows she’s created this situation but she loves having people to look after. She enjoys it, I just find it extremely unhealthy. I don’t know how’d you’d feel about this, but have you thought about talking honestly with him about it? Like, look mate, this is not working for me anymore. My priorities are changing, I don’t really want to drink much these days.. would love to spend time with you in other ways etc. Might be the wake up call he needs, or it might open up a space for him to share what’s been going on with him if you’re open and vulnerable first.

“Mental health” isn’t a diagnosis… everyone has mental health. It’s like saying “health alert”. What health? Good? Bad? I’m not sure why “mental health” has become some synonym for “struggling” when it clearly doesn’t mean that I co-sign people saying he might be depressed but the Ausar Thompson American professional basketball player for the Detroit Pistons NBA T-Shirt Apart from…,I will love this fact is your lives are just not similar. I’m in my mid-30s with no kids, and as a woman my friendship circle has closed in before collapsing completely because my life just isn’t the same as a parent’s. No harm, no foul, just very little in common anymore on a day-to-day basis. Exactly it could just be their day to day lives are different that’s all. OP has a family the friend doesn’t, he can do what he wants when he wants, OP can’t. It is what it is. It’s not your job to be his psychotherapist. On the other hand you are his friend, so you can do one last thing for him. You can tell him that he needs to get himself help, and if he does you’ll be a support to him but if he refuses to (meaningfully, actively) seek help then you’re out of his life.
