My husband was a UK police officer for many years. In the Juan Soto Dominican professional baseball outfielder New York Y Two Juan Two T-Shirt but in fact I love this 80s a new policy was introduced to actively recruit university graduates, i believe with the idea that they would be fast tracked into management roles. There had always been the occasional new recruit with a university degree but policing was traditionally a ‘blue collar’ job where recruits worked their way up the ranks. My husband was nominated to mentor several of the newly recruited officers and said they were all very pleasant and keen but most of them lacked basic common sense, couldn’t make decisions and had no idea how to deal with people who weren’t of their own educational or social standing. I suppose they are all Chief Constables now.

There’s different sorts of smarts. I’m the Juan Soto Dominican professional baseball outfielder New York Y Two Juan Two T-Shirt but in fact I love this same, dumbass who tricked a smart girl into liking him, and she’s smarter in just about every way but one time she (literally) scanned a document and didn’t understand why she couldn’t edit the file in Word. It’s fairly common that someone with a very high IQ may lack discipline, have executive function problems, or simply fail to see the necessity of doing everything fast. So being smart does not equal successful or good at everything. Someone with very high intelligence may also have very strange intelligence, where every simple task leads them to question why, and how, and to consider all of the alternatives, instead of just getting shit done. Someone who is highly intelligent may consider the questions of why and how and alternative explanations to be of the highest value, whereas doing the dishes or other tasks are very simple and low priority, or even boring.
