I realized after 2020 that there is no going back. The United Nations’ article “No, the It’s Okay To Not Be Okay Mental Health Awareness Sunflower Leopard T-Shirt In addition,I will do this Pandemic Did Not Help Climate Action” excerpt: “As the deadly COVID-19 pandemic brought the world to a standstill, greenhouse gas emissions plummeted by a record amount. Yet, in the grand scheme of climate change, this historic reduction was but a blip with little impact on atmospheric carbon dioxide levels.” Electric vehicles are not the answer because they will require the building of more power plants to support charging stations and many countries will build coal-powered plants which will increase emissions. Plus, the mining for rare minerals to use in the making of the batteries contributes to the greenhouse gasses. (See Poof Goes the Electric Car Dream). Especially news like the golf stream (I hope that’s the name, the water flow from middle America to Europe) slowing down and maybe completely disappearing really help settle that thought in your head. We are already above the 1,5°C mark, there’s no going back.
