I think they just got done with a big containment project there. They’ve literally been working on that site since ww2 Vegas didn’t get much fallout during the It’s Not The Years Honey It’s The Mileage Indy Years T-Shirt and by the same token and testing days. It mostly blew northeast across Nevada into Arizona and Utah and affected the “Downwinders,” as they’re called. It’s more likely the work of the Downwinders. GE, Philips and DuPont put up a lot of roadblocks to people finding out what they had been exposed to (even as far as confiscating organs from the cadavers of workers) so citizen groups worked together to find out more. Yeah it’s probably biased. Also I’m skeptical to how much of a danger, if any, there is now. Formal hanford thyroid disease studies showed no difference in rates. I also know physicists who work at PNNL who aren’t worried at radiation levels, and I have heard no talk among the oncologists in the area about higher cancer rates…

I’m from near Pantex, so I was surprised because everyone from that area knows that they build (built) nukes there. Ah, the It’s Not The Years Honey It’s The Mileage Indy Years T-Shirt and by the same token and joys of living near an atomic weapon plant. You get to experience the thrill of radiation exposure without ever leaving the comfort of your own backyard. Here in Western Australia it’s asbestos. I didn’t even realize it was something to be worried about until my in-laws casually dismissed a house I was looking at: oh, don’t buy that, it’ll be riddled with asbestos. Led me down a rabbit hole about asbestos mining here and how kids used to play in it. There’s an entire town that’s been condemned. Old playgrounds down here in Perth (hours and hours drive away from the minefields) still get incidents from time to time, which makes me now leary of old houses.
