As 210k+ TC, I think that would probably put you more in the Senior Product Manager or Director role. Those would generally require domain expertise in the field for that particular company. i.e. be an expert in some facet of banking for a banking company so that you can articulate the product that needs to be built. Technical knowledge is not that important for that particular role. Also, those positions are a lot rarer and harder to fill because you are looking for more specific experience. I think the lower/mid 100s is more of the warm body in charge of a team who knows scrum or something like that. In general there will be a lot more positions open at that level and they are easier to match/fill. It’s not you. These tech companies are on some straight up bullshit. Playing games and playing favorites. I promise all the people with jobs still are friends and kissing each other’s asses all day every day. They’ll argue this isn’t the case. But if your experience is legit you know I’m telling the truth. I’ve been in this hell for over 20 years. I’ve got a list of huge companies I’ve worked for. I ran a dev company. They don’t want me either. Maybe all of us devs who aren’t deemed worthy enough by the tech companies should start a non tech company and do something else…

It’s much cheaper to pay an extra +100k/year “tax” to kill the competition in its cradle than it is to fight them in the market. I’ve also worked in the entertainment industry as a musician. Companies have eliminated the middle managers who can’t do the ICs’ jobs. It’s unfortunate, but a natural part of the current economy. Best of luck my friend. After entry level positions, it seems to me that managers are the ones getting cut the most. In fact, while it seems they just aren’t hiring new entry level people, companies (including my own) are actively cutting managers.
