I am comfortable being alone and can be without issue, but I crave to spread joy with others, to experience the world with other people around me, to care about other people and just to talk with others to get their perspective on things. I was a very introverted, sheltered individual. Meditation has just help me become more in tune with who I am and who I am not, and not to give reaction to who people say I am or am not. Do you have A person than you don’t avoid socializing with? There are like 2 people that I don’t avoid spending time with, but the vast majority I avoid. It could be that you haven’t found the right people. Through meditation I learned that I used to spend time with people and get into relationships to fill a void. I’m now completely content and LOVE being alone, and my preferences/likes/dislikes/tolerance for people has changed dramatically.

The path is solitary. You’re fine as you are. It’s a bolstering of egos and opinions in pointless circles going nowhere. I realized I’m missing nothing and that my time alone is of far greater value. We are wired to be social animals. “Safety in numbers”, so there is this feeling of a need to socialize. But that’s for animals. I have found that I’m able to go inward for many of my emotional needs after meditating pretty intensely for a while now. So when I do communicate with others (close friends, let’s say) I’m better able to communicate my needs and feelings because I’m more mindful of them and not dumping a lot of shit on them that isn’t helpful. But there’s also a lot of people in my environment that I have 0 interest in having a conversation with because I don’t feel that they would be so supportive of me and my goals. I’m also introverted anyway, and meditation has made me more mindful of how people and situations can sap my energy if I let them. Not letting them is a meditation practice of a sort, and part of it is being aware of my responsibilities to others, who needs my attention and how much. And when I’m tapped out for the day, taking care of myself so I can be present for the important people in my life tomorrow
