It’s also possible that one way of avoiding inner pain is by being around other people a lot as a distraction. If you gain more inner peace, you don’t need to do that as much. Both of these things are somewhat true of myself. Now, in meditation, I’m also exploring how being around other people often makes me uncomfortable, and how it’s easier to avoid people. I’m letting go of this identity that I acquired, as a means of self-protection, that says “I don’t like to go out and do things, I prefer to stay home.” It’s not something that is completely true, it’s something that one part of me chooses to believe because it’s scared of what will happen if I go out.

It’s tend toward introversion, so while I enjoy being social from time to time, often times, I’d much prefer a quiet evening doing my thing. I used to do concentration on the breath style (based on The Mind Illuminated book if you’ve heard of it). Now I do a more traditional Zazen. Yeah more so. It’s hard to say because I started meditating in high school so it was a lot more common to be around people then.
