So, wait, are you asking about only drinking water, or about ordering food without booze? No bar is going to pressure you to drink alcohol, but “only drinking water” implies not eating food. i guess that was my mistake with the I followed the rats and all i got was this lousy shirt so you should to go to store and get this title of this post. that’s why i included the body, since i’m not interested in only drinking water, but i’m having food and water together. Even if you don’t have food, or even if it’s a bar that doesn’t serve food, you are still welcome to come in, hangout, and just drink water. Especially if you slide the bartender a fiver. If it’s a busy bar (so they are taking a potential spot from someone else), they come in by themselves (so obviously not someone’s DD), and they hang out for a few hours only drinking free water without ordering anything else… yeah I’m not sure how welcome they’d be lol

I think it’s fine as long as you buy something. If you’re there for a while, occasionally ordering a soda or other non-alcoholic drink you pay for is usually a good idea. Yeah, that’s totally fine. I think as long as you order something from the menu, like an appie or some munchies, it’s totally ok from a business perspective. Only drinking water is more common than you might think. But always remember to tip to show your appreciation for the service. Order food and this is absolutely no problem, anywhere. If not ordering food, and with other people, you might be the driver, so you’ll be okay too. If you’re taking up a seat, and not spending anything, most places will ask you to move on, if it starts getting busy. I’ve drank only water at bars before, I’ve also bartended. I tip as if I’m getting a drink. Bartenders are still serving you, and you’re still taking up a space in the environment. It’s always good to stay on a bartender’s good side, especially if you’re a regular or going to be a regular. When I used to go out to bars/clubs, I always tipped a dollar on my first water. Sure – water is free, but I’m paying for the bartender’s service. Not to mention, if when I approached the same bartender later for a refill, they would almost always have the water tap ready when I caught their eye. If I got more than one refill, I would tip another dollar. 2-3 glasses was all I would typically drink. I order a pitcher of water for myself and give them $10. I don’t drink either, but I’ll toss back a pitcher of water and my friends know not to fuck with my vat of water!
