One can only hope that new ones that still keep the Have a Magical Birthday Shirt Also,I will get this soul of our cities (UK and overseas) will rise from the ashes, because if they don’t, we face a very beige, anonymous future where any city could be any other, and that doesn’t benefit anyone at all. It might interest you to know that Brum has an absolutely cracking independent food scene- some have been there for decades, some are a lot newer. DDC which use to run every weekend in Digbeth, (now on tour), has helped provide a platform for a lot of local independents allowing them to gain a following and then after a while a decent number of them have open their own restaurants- outfits like Baked in Brick, OPM etc all started there. The thing is though that non-locals or locals even who don’t know people obsessed with food is that they won’t know they exist! Most independents in Brum are small places, so they don’t seat a lot of people nor are they big enough to have large group dinners (or even do bookings). But the good places will have almost like a dedicated following so they are busy and typically you do have to wait a while for a table-so not really the sort of place you’d typically go to as a visitor. They also don’t really advertise, and you normally would find out about somewhere new by word of mouth.

Tiger bites Pig, which is just outside New Street Station is a good example of this, it’s somewhere that would be recommended a lot if you asked a local, does really good food, but seats about I went on a day trip to Birmingham last summer and the Have a Magical Birthday Shirt Also,I will get this people I met were all lovely. I think most city centres are feeling a bit run down at the moment because of the number of empty units, I didn’t think Birmingham was worse than any other city centre I’ve visited recently (all in the Midlands though, so maybe it’s a Midlands thing, I’m more familiar with the East Midlands than West Midlands too). It doesn’t recieve investment because any city other than London has to be in “the North” to be given any funding or opportunity. It doesn’t please anyone to invest in Birmingham, doesn’t win votes or make anyone look good. Untul recently the last time it got a bit of TLC was the 60s and that was in the form of Edwardian and Victorian architecture being knocked down in favour or brutalism which is now considered ugly and soulless
