A night shift usually ends at 07:15 at our company. That’s it. You see the clock set itself back an hour at 1 AM and realize you’re fucked and stuck for another hour rather than moving onto 2AM. When I used to work at a bar we would close up shop and go get wasted at the places that stayed open the extra hour. It was fucking awesome! I work nights with special needs’ people. You work that extra hour and you get paid for that hour. Same for when we move the clock forward – 1hr shorter shift and hr less pay. When I worked at the club we just worked the extra hour.. but i guess it depends what job your working, probably all varies I had to work an extra hour. I’m salary so no extra pay and I just had to deal with working a 9 hour shift. It really sucked when we thought the clock already rolled back but we were wrong and then we saw it change back. I used to be a nurse’s aide in a nursing home in the US and occasionally worked the third shift (11pm-7am). If it was a fall back clock change, you worked an hour more but still got paid for it; so for an 8 hour shift, you’d work 9 and get paid for 9. If the clocks went forward, you worked an hour less but still were paid for that lost time; so for an 8 hour shift you’d work 7 and get paid for 8.

On the flip side of that, “spring forward” night, we only get 7 hours because we don’t work the 2:00 to 2:59 hour at all. That’s a really good question. I never thought of that. I remember last year was the first time I ever witnessed the clock going back exactly when it did. I was sitting in my ex’s car and he was going inside a McDonald’s to get a doordash order. I sat there and watched the clock and go from 3:00 back to 2:00. Working in a hotel. I work an extra hour and don’t get paid for it. But if you work the night where the clock goes +1h, you still get paid 8 hours even if you worked 7 hours I used to drive the drunk vans in college. In fall, you work an extra hour by redoing the 2-3 am hour and get paid for the extra hour. In spring, you skip from 1:59 am to 3 am, then work until 4 am instead of going home at 3 am, but still working the same amount of hours.
