He brought me a bowl of hot milk with a congealed glob of what was supposed to be cream of mushroom soup. I said why didn’t you mix it? He said he was waiting for it to melt lol. He did go on to become an excellent cook and even now is better than I am. It sounds like cooking was the straw that broke the camel’s back. Under normal circumstances I’d say, “well just teach him to cook.” But it sounds like there were a bunch of other issues.

As a person who is not a mom…you went miles and miles beyond what I would’ve done for this guy. Picking up his stuff? Maybe once or twice then he has to do it or we are having a talk. NTA This relationship dynamic seems more mother-son than two adult partners. You’re not in charge of picking up after him. Of course in relationships there is a trade-off (I honestly am nervous about cooking but it could be my eating disorder) but I’ll clean anything no problem, do laundry and vacuum and contribute in other ways that I can, like obviously paying my half of the rent and buying groceries. You’re stressed out, overworked, already caring for children yourself. You don’t need to add another ‘child’ in your life. You probably were stuffing this down for awhile and it just came out in a snap, and I can’t say I would feel differently, based on the circumstances. Honestly maybe this is the reality check he needs to get himself in order and not be taken care of by his partner while doing nothing to help out.
