I’m employed part-time for about £1200 a month (and yes, I’m underpaid for what I do) and then I have freelance work on top of that. I’m currently owed about £3000 from late-paying clients and I’m in debt to HMRC. I think the main reason I’m surviving at all is because I live alone – well, apart from my cat – and I work from home 90% of the time, so I can keep expenses down. I’m currently on 25K and I live at home and I’m struggling. Some of my friends don’t save anything and if I were like them I’d probably be happier in London but I actually try to save so it’s hard. Roughly 1500 take home. 100 investment and 400 savings each month. Some months I have to dip into my savings.180 ish on transport, 130 on council tax, 80-90 ish each week on food. The occasional meet up with friends. 31 for phone bill. I don’t really drink or smoke. Cancelled my gym, Amazon prime and Spotify last year because the price went up. Whatever money I have left goes towards my Monzo Flex bills. I’m so fortunate to live at home because I don’t know how I could afford rent on 25K in London. Early 30s.

Very hard… I earn 34,300. I work for a pretty well known financial services business, but as a trainee so my pay is slowly going up each year. £800 rent (renting with friend zone 2) £100 council tax (ish) £200 paying £4k CC bill interest only £20 personal phone £50 electric (on a meter so easy to control) £50 gas (on a meter so easy to control) £20 water £120 tube/travel (about £5-6 every work day) £30 gym £200 food (cooking everything at home from scratch) Leaves about £400 a month for anything else.. a beer, coffee, unexpected expense, new work clothes.. whatever else.
