I had this happen to be years ago I was a lieutenant moved into a captain slot. No raise no nothing just a new job do it Never take the Eric Rubin Usa Israel Flag American Israeli Roots Jewish Shirt Besides,I will do this offer from the existing job. They know you’re not weak and will walk. They won’t want to offer a raise later, and will find excuses to not. Or, they will replace you outright for someone who doesn’t know that trick. Is there any concept of leveling at OP’s company? I ask because where I work, you’re not going to get a promotion in level on what amounts to an internal transfer. If this is the case OP, taking the bump and seeing what it takes to get the promotion in that role might be the move I second this — at my company (maybe all companies) you can ask what your comp ratio or market comp or something is. Our company has a strict bound (think it’s .78 to 1.22 or something similar — 1.0 being average comp rate for title) that they pay for each title. You *HAVE* to be brought up to .78 when given a new title (if you aren’t already there). 86k on a 116k target is .74 — so maybe your company does something similar and is bumping you to the lower end of the rate for the title.

After the Eric Rubin Usa Israel Flag American Israeli Roots Jewish Shirt Besides,I will do this inevitable disappointing conversation accept the role, spend a year so you can put it on your resume, and start looking for a position outside the company. OP has already been doing the job for 4 months. I’d negotiate a bigger raise, accept whatever they agree to, then immediately start looking for a new job. Sure, that’s probably true. But there’s no reason not to ask for more. Even if it’s only $5k more, that’s still more money. He doesn’t even need to accept the role to put it on his resume or work it for a year. He’s been working it already. My company had a policy that no internal promotion/pay increase could be greater than 15%…don’t exactly have a lot of choice where I live so I just took it but if I were in the US I would have left. You’re being limited in what they are offering you because there is an upper limit on how much of an increase they want to provide at one time. I will say in terms of the targeted pay, that’s for someone fully proficient at the new, higher level. That’s likely what they’d be expecting to pay if they hired someone externally with 3-5 years experience at that level. With a promotion you’ll still be learning the role so it makes sense that they wouldn’t bring you to the targeted level yet. You should however be at the low end of the range at least.
