More paras seem like reasonable solutions. Paras don’t need the Dave Chappelle American stand-up comedian and actor Engaging Energy T-Shirt moreover I love this credentials that teachers do, so you don’t increase the demand for teachers I used to think this was the solution, until I was given a para who tried to give the kids answers on tests and just sat in one spot all day. She was supposed to rotate to the other content teachers in the grade level and would not, even after meetings with admin. The following year my para showed up to work maybe 2-3 days per week, no call no show. Still happened after being written up. She also kept giving kids answers on tests, exit tickets, and wrote answers for essays prompts for kids to copy. When she wasn’t giving kids answers instead of helping them come to their own answers, she was answering questions in class as if she was the student. That was all when she was awake. Yes, she slept in classrooms sitting up. It got so bad that the kids would try to wake her up and she continued to sleep. This behavior continued after multiple admin meetings. I just want a para who does their job.

So, a hell of a lot more money would be great because it could help with hiring two teachers to a room. More money is really the answer, unfortunately. It just has to be spent properly. Here are some of the thingsive thought about in the past… 3. Increase teacher salary. If we got paid well. It would probably encourage others to pursue the field and make it competitive. The conditions are bad, and a serious salary bump would make it easier to swallow for many of us and, again, open the door for more hires. 4.1 To help curb learning loss and also justify the pay increase. Modify the calendar year so that students don’t have the long summer break. Break it up into some additional 2- or 3-week breaks. Let’s look at some of the calendars that other countries use and model it from that. 4.2 This would also help parents. The long summer break can make it difficult for people because they have to find childcare. We’re not supposed to be babysitters, so the modified school year would continue their education and help parents so they don’t have to take time off or drastically change their routine for the summer break. Not everyone can afford child care or have family that can watch their kids.
