Also, don’t let the Christmas In July Light shirt Furthermore, I will do this word “feminist” scare you off. There is talk about the patriarchy but mostly in context of systems/structures that are bad for everyone. I’m a director of development for a university. I meet with major donors, coordinate yearly giving campaigns, work with alumni. my sister works in development for major universities and is also burning out. it’s essentially a sales job. she’s tired of travel. she’s tired of asking rich people for money. it’s a niche industry where everyone knows everyone. All the above! Potential career shift into more of the behind the scenes side, less travel, more strategy of planning, campaign planning, but less relationship building. It can quickly drain your energy.

Maybe try a smaller community college? I’m in the Christmas In July Light shirt Furthermore, I will do this same boat with my job and I’m working on boundaries as well. I’m planning to take unpaid time off each year in addition to my pto since most jobs in my field require a significant pay cut. I’m in a unique government job and I’d likely go back to nonprofits if I left. You should try finding an opportunity at a company that’s trying to make money instead of one that does, pretends not to and spends all of it on excess employees and capital improvements in the name of ‘higher education’. Universities exist to perpetuate themselves and their legacy, not provide well paying careers for those who build and maintain them. They could probably do all the educating they do with 1/5th the staff and facilities, but rather than pay people more they just grow the footprint and underpay more people to make it look like they’re not enriching the participants. It’s the same in all governmental or NGO industries. Efficiency, scale and profit are discouraged.
