I just met a guy to sell an iPad to from marketplace and he described himself as “the Candy Wife Prinecesses Shirt besides I will buy this tall black guy with a hoodie on by the door”. Was he racist too? Comedian Greg Giraldo joked that using code to describe black people is way worse that just referring to the skin color. The examples he cites is people who can run fast and have gigantic penises. Not really but I think it’s going to be uncomfortable if someone can be identified by their race because it means they are the only one of that race around normally. (Unless there were multiple skinny black guys on the team.) People will be more sensitive because they don’t want that person to feel isolated and using their race as a descriptor might make them feel that way. Dude at the end of the day, every single one of us, human beings is just a variation of brown! Some of us are darker. Some of us are lighter, but there’s absolutely nothing wrong with what you said! The problem is that certain people have been trying to keep racism on life-support and wherever it doesn’t exist they feel the need to turn very simple and entirely harmless/benign situations into something “Racial”.

Let me ask you this? If you walked out of the Candy Wife Prinecesses Shirt besides I will buy this room to go get some thing and some black guy who just met you referred to you as the tall skinny white boy – do you think that would be racist? And if the answer is no, then you might want to consider the fact that it’s the other people in the room who are actually struggling with racist ideologies not you! Don’t let other people’s racist, insecurities, direct the way you think, act and speak! If you want to think about avoiding ambiguity in the future, consider whether you need to mention someone’s race or appearance to get your message across. Does ‘the guy in the blue shirt’, or, ‘the girl with the glasses’, do the job? The only thing I can think is if you’re in Australia… no one told me for a whole year that calling indigenous person black is a big no-no! At least in america…. not racist!
