My friend’s mom had the Black on black the boondocks shirt and I love this most outrageous reasoning for this: She was preventing people from breaking the “Thou shalt no kill” commandment. In her mind, if you chose to speed you were disobeying that commandment by breaking the law and allowing for the possibility of a fatal accident. She would park herself in the left lane next to a car going the speed limit and not let anyone pass. Road trips were always awkward with them. Y’all ever see a highway exit on the left? I can’t remember if it’s on the beltway, or to get onto the beltway near Baltimore, but I had to get over to the Left lane to take the exit on the Left. I had to be in the Left lane to make sure I could take my exit, even if I didn’t need to pass anyone.

in all road areas i’ve driven in, the Black on black the boondocks shirt and I love this left lane is for people going fast, and the right lane is for slower people or people taking exits. is this not common? So none of you have tried riding in the second lane from the left and gotten tired of passing every 15 seconds? Passing / changing lanes has a certain element of danger. People might not see you. Try to change lanes at the same time. Etc. Why would you drive in a lane where everyone is going 60mph while you pass repeatedly at 70mph?If you’re going 5-10mph over the limit it stands to reason that you’re going plenty fast and staying in the “fast lane” to avoid basically weaving is a good idea. If you see someone coming up behind you going 90mph I suppose it makes sense to let them pass. But I feel like half of you guys have never driven on the highway. That second lane over is often filled with people going at or below the speed limit. And I’m not trying to be passing 100 times on a 30-40 minute drive. If everyone would lock in at 5-10 over and use cruise control with a decent following distance there basically wouldn’t be traffic. I’ve often seen the one guy that wants to 10 over the flow of traffic BE the cause of traffic. They speed around each car, cut them off, then that person slows down and causes a ripple effect. And they save maybe 3 minutes on a 30 minute trip. You pull up next to them at the red light on the exit ramp.
