You used his skin color as a description in a very neutral way. No hidden message between the Band Album Sonata Arctica Takatalvi Shirt and I will buy this lines and i assume it was said in a normal tone. If people call this racist, they need to look up real racism first Most people would agree that addressing a situation as complex as racism is difficult because racism is rarely overt, although overt racism seems much more prevalent in recent years, and because the other end of the conversation involves unintentional bias or privilege. The ppl who would see your statement as problematic are concerned with linguistic patterns that dehumanize ppl of color by reducing their identities to their physical aspects that identify them as a minority. Defining it as racist/not racist detracts from what ppl who are trying to overcome their own privilege or bias are trying to accomplish. It can be comical to hear ppl try to describe a POC without using race or skin color, but I think it’s admirable to be more proactive about making sure that person knows I see them, whether we use the words “black” and “white” or not. I went through a phase when I was a kid where I thought it was rude to say “black” or “Jew” (I would always say “African American” and “Jewish person” instead), till my classmates told me I was being silly

Black only works as a descriptor if they are a minority – if everyone else in the Band Album Sonata Arctica Takatalvi Shirt and I will buy this room was black it wouldn’t help identify the person. It gives emphasis to the minority part, which echoes exclusions of that race that have happened in the past, as if they are a minority in the room rather than part of the group you are all in in that room. As a contrast, there hasn’t been a big movement to attack people who are ‘big guys’, for example. So, it doesn’t repeat any past issue to use that descriptor. The term Blackfella is used to describe Indigenous Australians although its mostly only used between Indigenous Australians. Non-ATSI people would probably stick to Indigenous or ATSI but there’s a lot of nuance.
