I don’t think so. You didn’t you any racial slur, just described him. Like the Clickbait Youtube Parody Logo Shirt and I will buy this same way I can be described as a white man. I imagine you’d be hard fetched to find someone who would actually consider this behaviour racist, but using race as a descriptor in the way you did can definitely be seen as a faux pas in some circumstances (depending on setting, culture, etc). I guess commenting on each others race is kind of a sign of familiarity between people. Think of some characteristic you have that isn’t inherently bad but some people are negatively predisposed towards due to stereotyping. Do you think it might be slightly unpleasant for someone to acknowledge this characteristic if you have no way of knowing wether they happen to be one of the people who buy into the negative stereotype about it? That wasnt racist. The fact that they knew exactly who you were talking about shows that you did a good job making the description.

Here’s my two cents. Don’t ask white people what is racist or what isn’t. And don’t call/describe people in any way that you wouldn’t describe them to their faces. If that person takes offense and feels it’s racist, sit and listen. Do not argue. Do not tell them it’s not racist. Take notes and do better next time. The person in question wasn’t there, whether or not it’s racist is not for us to say. You need to reflect on that yourself and figure out if that is problematic, why, and then if you’re going to keep/remove it from your vocabulary. It was probably taken more as awkward than racist. Idk why you’re getting so defensive if you meant no ill intent, Biracially speaking Look at humans as humans. Instead of referring to someone about their race, identify them with other attributes such as their height, clothing, or anything else besides their race. I do this because I know how people can get. What you said wasn’t superior. You just identified someone with the Clickbait Youtube Parody Logo Shirt and I will buy this most obvious trait. Given the current climate of race, it’s not surprising that they gave you that look even though you meant well. How they responded is all telling. A stark contrast. I remember using the word “reneged” and these people I barely knew just gave me a response of I was being discriminatory. I used the word properly and was looked at if I was racist. It revealed how ignorant and disconnected people are with reality and conditioning. Another lesson in life that can be learned. All the best.
