I’m going to go out on a limb here and say get rid of fluorescent lights. I’ve read stuff about their effect on kids and a connection to autism and even if it seems a little off the Awesome cameron Brink Stanford Cardinal Of The Pac 12 Conference Is Defensive Player Of The Year Poster Shirt besides I will buy this wall, I say run with it. They say places with more natural light have lower rates of autism, and that the longer you can keep kids away from that type of lighting, the better it is for kids. Apparently babies are especially sensitive to the subtle flickering of the lights that are barely perceptible to adults. Seems like a small thing that could be very helpful. Follow up question: Is there a helpful role that technology can play in this? If so, how? I was reading in other countries kids have the Awesome cameron Brink Stanford Cardinal Of The Pac 12 Conference Is Defensive Player Of The Year Poster Shirt besides I will buy this same teacher for several years in a row… instead of starting over new every year. Money. Pure and simple. You want better schools, teachers who care more about their work (and aren’t stretched too thin holding down 2 other gigs), and better communities? PAY US. I’ve been looking at job postings lately. $30/hr offered for teachers (masters preferred) for my in-demand area (STEM) in San Francisco!!! WTF. Are you kidding me? Who’s living on that in Iowa, let alone CA? Collectively, we are not pissed off enough about this. Sick of it. Love teaching, but the pay is absolutely demoralizing. Rant over. For us, we’re seeing a drop off in kids where they have 3rd Grade Math level and a 4th Grade Reading level. I think we need to have targeted interventions at the Elementary level and then more communication between schools. Teaching junior high for a long time there was zero communication or data from the lower levels. We started at guessing even with diagnostics and had no clue what was being done. Then moving to high school I saw there was even less communication from the junior high. The thing is we pay teachers on special assignment to be coaches for both K-5 and then 6-12. There is zero reason those teachers shouldn’t be guiding the instruction, showing where the gaps are and what the trends are to help bridge some of that. Instead everyone is reinventing the wheel at every transitional grade and it hasn’t worked in 20 years since I’ve been there. When you bring it up? It’s always “It’s a good idea, we’ll have to pass that along.”
