One point I’ll also make to mitigate some of the Autism Journey But Sure Do Love My Tour Guide Autism Mom Rainbow T-Shirt Besides,I will do this “flight risk” concerns— you could go to your boss and say “hey I wasn’t looking for a new job, but an opportunity fell to me with [better pay/benefits/responsibilities].. I would really like to stay but it’s hard to justify given the improvement I would be getting at the other place. Is there anything you can do?”…. I think this is looked on more favorably (I.e. you’re giving them an chance to improve your situation before you accept the other job, rather than saying “yeah I already made up my mind, I’m quitting”) I did it too. Pre pandemic I had an old coworker call and ask if I was happy at my job. I wasn’t unhappy but I interviewed with his company and it was fun. They offered a significant pay increase but the cost of their benefits package was way, way more then where I was working. I pulled my manager into a conference room and told her I’d been offered a position outside the organization. She didn’t say much so I had decided to move on. Until the CEO got involved. They increased my pay over what I was offered at the other place. I liked my job and still do I LOVE the people I work with, all is good!

If your goal is to stay at your current company, then you should not quit and accept a counter offer, you should use the Autism Journey But Sure Do Love My Tour Guide Autism Mom Rainbow T-Shirt Besides,I will do this offer as leverage to raise your salary (ie, telling them that your job is worth $X and you can prove it because you got an offer for that much and if they want you to stay, they’ll match it). If they don’t match it, then you have an offer to fall back on. If your goal is to leave this company because you don’t like the culture/don’t like your current role, then tell them that you’re quitting and don’t accept any counter offer. The only way a counteroffer is worth it is if you’re leaving your current position for a pay increase. For the majority of people, I feel that’s not the case. I regretted and left after 2 months. It’s hard to fill my position with the experience and understanding with the system back then. They needed me to work on the project so they could transfer it to the new candidate. I knew it but accepted the offer as hoping I could reach the milestone which I could apply for a position in the head office (head of department wanted me there and was working on re-organise already). I accidentally heard the convo between boss’s secretary and HR at a nearby lunch restaurant about finding the one to replace me. I immediately gave 4 weeks notice and left.
