I have never masked while at this job. If i’m dealing with a customer who has a whole attitude they’ll either see the Willie Beamen a Former American Football Cornerback NFL T-Shirt moreover I will buy this irritation on my face or they’ll hear me say something to them. Walking away feels so good though because you know even without looking at them that they’re shocked or more irritated than you are At the Walmart I worked at our Managers were spineless. If a Karen demanded to speak to a manager we’d go to the back, and our Assistant Managers would ask “Are they mad? Are they yelling?” We’d say obviously. They’d tell us “I’m going to then give it a few minutes and hope they burn themselves out and go home.” As a previous manager at other retailers I was blown away by how cowardly they were at Walmart and how instead of trying to de-escalate the situation and make things right how they’d sit in the back letting the customer get more pissed. Many of us got so tired of taking the verbal beating and lying for the manager saying “he’s busy at the moment but said he will be with you shortly”. That we eventually started to throw them under the bus like they were doing to us. We’d straight up tell them “he said he’s too busy and doesn’t feel like dealing with that right now. He can’t be bothered but said feel free to call corporate they totally want to hear it.” Turns out corporate doesn’t care cause those spineless managers have been there for years.

Nowadays the Willie Beamen a Former American Football Cornerback NFL T-Shirt moreover I will buy this customer is most often wrong. But they won’t admit it. So they’ll blame anyone and anything else then lie as much as they possibly could, even if they were being recorded they’ll double down. It’s weird because working at Walmart the first time around over 15 years ago we would discount things 10% under the “satisfy guest” option on the register screen. We used to apologize even if they were in the wrong (9 times outta 10 they were) but we’d at least pretend to give a shit and value them as a customer. Nowadays, Walmart doesn’t care and the bar on how much mangers need to know, or anything they need to do is so low that most our managers basically get paid to sit in the office and watch TikTok videos. I was surprised how even basic computer skills to fix simple time clock punches was beyond them to where my higher ups would address any questions requiring any tech at all to me. It was sad. The store had maybe 2 managers out of 20 that actually gave a shit and would step up. The rest were pretty comfortable boasting infront of us about how little they actually care or have to do anymore. Working for Walmart recently felt different than it did all those years ago. lol honestly, I would do the same. I wasn’t a manager but, honestly half the shit that they got pissed about was something that nobody would be able to change. If the manager didn’t wanna handle it, I took advantage of it, free break as you wait for them to leave basically.
