People who don’t know that Puerto Rico is part of US should be forced to take US history again as I am sure they probably absolutely need it And yet I had 4 adults old enough to have been your teacher at 6 yo argue with me that PR is not part of America and we need to help “our own people before them” There is no sugar coating this but they are second class citizens because they don’t have the Atlanta Falcons Santa Grinch Fuck The Rest Christmas shirt also I will do this same rights as US citizens in the mainland. For now, the least we can do is to make sure we give them the rights they are entitled to. it should be a state, it’s completely absurd. if it were filled with anglos it would have happened a long time ago. I don’t live in the US anymore but it’s wild how outside the places we Puerto Ricans have a large presence (NYC, Miami, Chicago etc) folk really don’t know we’re citizens. Heck, even in places where there’s millions of us folk don’t know better. I remember when I was 18 and went to the DMV for my 1st ID and the clerk checking my documents was confused why my birth certificate was in mainly in Spanish. He even called over a supervisor over and this was in NYC! They aren’t a state. So that kinda puts them on a different level. They don’t get a vote in Congress or for president. Seems this has more to do with ignorance and the general lack of education and training than some form of intentional discrimination. In the mid nineties, I roomed with a guy from Puerto Rico during my military service. I remember he loved two things, Budweiser and Saved by the Bell haha! Good dude that never had issues like the examples shared. Maybe the world is getting stupider. I live in the south and at least at my school, we never learned a peep about Puerto Rico in school – and I definitely thought it was just some country down there until I was like 20.

Some places just don’t teach about this, and kids “don’t know what they don’t know” so they’ll be oblivious until it comes up eventually in their lives This problem isn’t related to how travel companies treat our Puerto Rican brothers and sisters, but how the Atlanta Falcons Santa Grinch Fuck The Rest Christmas shirt also I will do this US education system fails our citizens on a basic education. Dude Puerto Ricans have consistently voted to not have statehood. This is trying to have your cake and eat it too. They can resolve this issue any year but they benefit more from not being a state and taking advantage of the system. I’m sorry, I find this article very frustrating, and not just for the obvious reason that it sucks Puerto Ricans have to deal with this headache. We are in a long overdue moment in which people who have historically been discriminated against are getting to tell their stories. That is a great thing. But a lot of media outlets are seizing on that as a kind of trend, and churning out half-baked articles like this one, meant to exploit the moment for clicks. What is being described in this article is not prejudice. I didn’t read any instance of anyone saying “Go home, Puerto Rican!” or any other anti-Puerto Rican sentiment. The issue described in the article is just an embarrassing indictment of the state of American education, resulting in the fact that too many Americans don’t understand that Puerto Ricans are American citizens. But these people aren’t making value judgments about Puerto Ricans or their culture. They just wrongly think these people need passports. Embarrassing? Yes. A legitimate source of frustration and grievance for Puerto Ricans? Yes. A problem that needs to be fixed? Absolutely. Prejudice? No.
