While the Andrei Svechnikov Russian professional ice hockey winger Carolina Coon T-Shirt and by the same token and modern Democratic party can largely be associated with his policies and actions at that point in history, it’s worth remembering that in the next presidential election we saw an almost 1 for 1 flip on which states voted for which party. I think he was highly successful and effective as a president during his time and during his time in congress, but I agree that his style of operating would only lead to failure in a modern landscape. He knew the political consequences but pushed it through anyway; he was famously quoted as acknowledging the vote “lost the south” for a generation. Also, one of the reasons LBJ could get stuff done was that it was a lot easier to get local kickbacks (pork) written into bills back then. A politician could explain a ‘bad’ vote to their constituency by talking about how it bought them a bridge or other special project.

Nowadays, politicians are mortal enemies and must be destroyed at all costs. Truly appalling! lyndon johnson was not friends with a lot if politicians, and made pretty serious enemies in his own party who opposed desegregation
