As a result I learned to curl my arm around my plate and wolf down the contents, because there was also a time limit. To this day I eat like the hounds of hell are after me. We often expect more of children than we do of ourselves or other adults. We expect children to regulate their emotions and punish them when they do not, even though many adults barely regulate their own emotions. We send them to school all day, then expect them to do homework when they get home without complaint even though most of us would balk if our employers sent us home with work every night. We expect them to sit quietly and still for long stretches of time, when kids are hardwired to be wiggly and active. We make them eat when they aren’t hungry, apologize when they’re not sorry, and be polite when they are upset.

You have seen people complain and joke about being forced to finish a child sized meal so they don’t complain about being hungry an hour later. Backend to me and now I have weight problems and a severe fear of wasting food yay!
