About 4 in the afternoon they thanked us for a service and told us we wouldn’t be called back as the trail had been adjourned indefinitely. Turns out on the way to the court the defendant had over powered his escort and escaped. He attacked someone during his period on the run and ended up killing himself after a stand off. So slightly wasted day for what would undoubtably have been a very tense case only for it to sort of solve itself. I’m actually called up for it currently too, since last week. It’s really annoying though because I have to check the website at 5pm every day to see if my number has been called to come in the next day. Which means I can’t schedule any calls or meetings in work as I don’t know if I’m going to be in work or not. I went in to court last Monday for the induction session then every day since the website has said that my number is not required to attend the following day – so I haven’t actually done anything yet. I was called up last year, had better things to do so emailed and said I couldn’t make it. They said ok that’s fine. That’s my story. I’ve done it once – absolutely hated it. I can’t go into depth for obvious reasons, but the thing that made it difficult was that the defendant seemed a bit vulnerable and I felt like he wasn’t really able to give a good account of himself. The whole process rests on the assumption that people behave in a way that makes sense, and people always make sense when they’re telling the truth, but I’m not sure I believe that. Really hoping I never get called up again. I got called up, but it was in my uni town and I had left already. Went back to pick up some stuff and hand the keys back on a Saturday, found a letter summoning me for the Monday! Had to call the court first thing Monday and explain why I couldn’t attend. They were understanding about it and excused me. Haven’t been called up since and I’m slightly disappointed by that!

Father in law did his last month. First case for discontinued due to procedural issue. The following Monday he sat on a 3 day case and enjoyed it a lot. I did it five years ago. I didn’t see the inside of a courtroom until the Wednesday afternoon, I got a LOT of puzzle done. I’ve done It twice now, deferred it first time I was picked as was potentially a very long fraud case and was in the middle of my degree. First case was axe vs butterfly knife fight between 2 parents outside a primary school (axe man was on trial for wounding), second case was a stabbing over a debt. First case not guilty , second case guilty. Interesting to see the process in court
