I’m so sorry for your experiences. But I’m from Da Nang and I really love my city, I hope you will have a good experience here. Break your big notes at a shop and only use small notes for those vendors. I can say I ever had that experience in Vietnam and I have been there a few times. Everyone has been friendly but I’m not white so maybe they don’t target me If you don’t want to get scam as a tourist, stay away from tourist place simply as that. There are hotels everywhere in hanoi. Just go 5km to any direction you will see different life Nah. I’ve had nothing but good experience all the time I’ve visited. Anecdotally it has been highly voted by tourists as the best city to visit in Vietnam. Big cities like Saigon and Hanoi harbour thieves and they have left a sour taste with tourists because of the excessive scamming.

In the famous streets on saigon i encountered strong heckling in all of vietnam, so you can go there to be battle tested I love Da Nang, the beach is endlessly long and really nice. I go to the beach every day to exercise, it’s full of activity with others running, doing calisthenics, playing volleyball, football, badminton, dancing, surfing/swimming, or just eating/relaxing/drinking. I’ve never been scammed there. If someone comes up to sell you something, and you don’t want it, you just wave them away. I didn’t get scammed anywhere else except hanoi. The last time I went to hanoi I got scammed so badly that I haven’t been back in over a decade. Da nang is chilled and every person I met in Vietnam has been super lovely. Obviously you have to be a little bit smart and watch out for obvious scams but seriously… it’s a very easy country for tourists. Yes people are going to ask you to come sit at their restaurant or buy the crap they’re selling on the street but just put yourself in their shoes for a minute. Like come on, they are just trying to get by. Just say no thank you and continue on???? Don’t get your undies knotted up over it
