And just like that, Kendall’s entire life’s purpose, hopes and dreams are dashed away by one vote. Betrayed by his father in the Witch Way to the Wine Halloween Drinking Women Party T-Shirt but in fact I love this first episode and by his sister in the final one. No more heir to the throne. These are truly awful people. No one wins. Kendall wasn’t lying about that sit down with Logan as a seven year old. I believe Logan wanted it to be him ideally and initially, but maybe not at the time of his death. So, the final question remains: Was it an underline or a cross out? Also, Roman’s little smile when Gerri recited her limerick during the dinner was such a nice moment. I’m sad they didn’t interact again. I feel like I saw the Kendall/Roman relationship with new clarity here. There is a voice inside each of them that knows they aren’t cut out for this but use each other as a measuring stick to believe the lie and keep the dream alive in a codependent way. Roman hides behind Kendall’s business confidence and competence, and on the other hand Kendall’s confidence comes from his gut feeling that he is at least a marginally better pick than Roman, so he always straddles the line between propping Roman up and also ensuring he is still always under his thumb. Roman’s sad realization that he was never a suitable candidate crushes Kendall, because the facade falls away for him too with that same logic. All bullshit.

Shiv’s “he couldn’t fit the Witch Way to the Wine Halloween Drinking Women Party T-Shirt but in fact I love this idea of a whole woman in his head” speech last week could have been directed at me, and a lot of this sub, in reaction to Shiv’s final moves. While I can’t say I understand her motives completely, I do know that it is the result of a bunch of complex variables and many of those probably involve being a woman. Her decision felt genuine and the difficulty in pinpointing why is a sign of good writing, not bad. Sibling spite, convenience of being a CEO’s wife, prioritizing kids futures, marriage vows, public perception, constant betrayal by men dangling leadership roles over her — that is a complex stew of emotions and she acted on them. Shining a light on Kendall’s kids not being the true lineage of Logan was interesting to mention now right at the end, it played like something that had always been hidden beneath the surface because it hit too close to the nerve. Explains Kendall’s sense of being a profound disappointment a little better and even adds some color to Shiv’s decision to keep her own baby in spite of a rocky marriage. It would have given her leverage in her father’s eyes.
