Based Determinists, as long as you have a strong set of cores values, I feel like you impulsively choose the Who’s Your Sugar Daddy Diabetes Awareness T-Shirt moreover I will buy this right path and the lack of free will is quite a freeing feeling, makes nihilistic and depressed existential problems a lot less horrible to deal with and doesn’t eliminate the social pressures and consequences to act moral 🙂 Yeah, wow, I don’t see that being good for helping the mind recover from addiction at all. If anything, It’d probably continue that cycle as the person involved would think “well, it’s not my fault I’m addicted” Lots of things aren’t our fault but we still have to deal with them. People with chronic physical illnesses know this and don’t get the judgement that people with addictions do. It’s a fact that addiction has a biological and even genetic component. So I totally get your point but I think viewing addiction as an illness (but not an excuse) is beneficial in a lot of ways, including to those who care about an addict. It helps you understand that they wouldn’t necessarily choose to do the awful things they do, and it’s not because they don’t care back. Didn’t help me, that just made me sad and depressed and feel incapable of being able to stop. You stop by re-evaluating why you use this substance? Why did you start? are these goals monumentally apart? are you unable to thrive in your goals? is it hurting your friendships/relationships? are you supressing trauma or mental health issues instead of confronting them? How much money can you save? etc. Add onto that, understanding the circumstances that led you to it, the people that introduced you to it, you give yourself way more breathing room, especially if you relapse as that can kickstart addiction again. Technically your still stopping of your own volition, but your more an outside observer of yourself than you in this process.

I reached a nadir when I knew I was upsetting my family and husband, and I decided that as slow suicide goes, it’s really cruel, and I actually didn’t want to die. Hence therapy and now mostly teetotal. Do you want to die an unpleasant death soon? is a tough question to face. Addiction is a sickness. Doing something about a sickness is your choice. If you had a sickness like lung cancer, you’d stop smoking, take your meds and do therapy. Food. I struggle with a food addiction and binge eating, I’ve done all sorts of substances and in my experience there’s nothing worse than having a crippling addiction to something you need to survive. “How bad could being addicted to food be”…it’s rough. Every day is a struggle. I think gambling is the Who’s Your Sugar Daddy Diabetes Awareness T-Shirt moreover I will buy this worst. If you become addicted to drugs or alcohol, there are physical consequences that eventually catch up to you and force you to think about quitting. With gambling, you can ruin your whole life in a very short time, without suffering any physical consequences that might prompt you to seek treatment before the worst happens.
