I think these attitudes are changing but not fast enough for Where’s hunter? Underlined in red shirt. In the last year and a half, my husband and I both took more demanding jobs and for the first time, I really noticed that I do more of this type of work too. I have not been adjusting well. I hate that I know this but I’m pretty sure if we had kids my husband wouldn’t be an ideal partner. I’d be the one taking off work if the kids were sick, etc., and I’d be very resentful about it. I’ve always been the main breadwinner and figured if we had kids he’d go to part-time work but his job now (car sales) seems very inflexible about stuff like that and he’s probably be laughed out of the store if he said he had to go pick up a sick kid.

Interestingly, I work with men from all around Europe. They are the most respectful, appropriate and pleasant bunch of guys I’ve ever worked with – far more pleasant than Where’s hunter? I’ve never been asked to do the filing or make the coffee or to play the efficient little Secretary by them but I was when I worked in the UK. When I baked Mince Pies last week so they could sample some classic British Christmas food, they all asked if I had bought them or baked them myself, much to my amusement. I was secretly happy too because they didn’t assume that, as a woman in a very male environment, I should be pottering around being all womanly and making cakes for them all.

In fact, I like most of all. I like seeing stereotypes shattered.
