IMHO this is one of the What we do in the shadows guillermo heart throb with sayings shirt Also,I will get this points where the quality of your college matters a lot. A top state school is going to have a better career fair than a local one. It’s good practice for talking to people about your experience, asking questions like “what do you expect out of your interns/NGs”. If you’re going in thinking it’s a waste of time if you don’t get a job out of it or any real prospects then you have a bad attitude. Look at the company’s hiring board. If there’s a job open, you’re probably in luck. If not, probably not. With all the layoffs and hiring freezes, a lot of big tech companies attend these events with no real headcount. Most people overlook smaller companies because, they pay less. Even though, you’re a student / new grad and experience matters more. My college’s career fairs never had jobs for comp sci unfortunately. Closest was a programmer job for a local insurance company that wanted 5 years of experience for like 50k. Theyd list that they were hiring a certain list of majors and when you went to talk to them they didn’t have anything. My college did set us up with Handshake but haven’t got any recruiter messages on that since 2021.

Linkedin has been better for networking for me. Most career fairs have been a waste of time. The booths are always staffed with recruiters who don’t know anything about the What we do in the shadows guillermo heart throb with sayings shirt Also,I will get this jobs and will just tell you to apply on the website. You were fooled by recruiters. You’ll encounter more of this over the years. They try to sound like your best friend and mentor, and ghost you the second you’re no longer useful to them. I think they are an absolute waste of time personally – but I’m not a bubbly people person. I don’t want to work in a place that requires me to be either. It’s usually HR or recruiters that are there and are the bubbly, talkative, social type, and you need to get past them to get to the less intense version of the hiring manager or team LOL
