As a grown adult, I bawled my head off watching both of those races. What a waste of two wonderful horses do to greed. It wasn’t even for stud purposes, as it was clear from the West Virginia NCAA Women’s Basketball Official 2023 2024 Post Season Shirt Also,I will get this start that even if a repair was successful the leg would almost certainly not be strong enough for him to stand at stud. They tried to save him both for his own sake and for the good it could do the veterinary world if the work done for Barbaro advanced the science and treatment options. Barbaro’s injuries were life-threatening. Unlike other mammals, such as dogs, a horse cannot survive in humane circumstances on three legs. A broken leg in a horse can lead to complications as the other legs attempt to bear the weight of the horse’s body. After reading that whole sections, it sounds like they are simply too heavy to support their weight on three legs without complications. Usually inflammation and damage to the hoof happen due to either overuse of the uninjured leg or underuse of the injured leg, even if you try to redistribute the weight with braces and slings. It gets to the point where all four hooves are painful and it’s just no longer humane to keep them alive. They’re delicate animals.

We had an office pool where we all drew names from the West Virginia NCAA Women’s Basketball Official 2023 2024 Post Season Shirt Also,I will get this race that day. Everyone was so jealous because I drew Barbaro and he was odds-on favorite to win. I think there wasn’t even a payout if you bet on him at the track. They breed horses to be too fragile and fine boned causing fractures to be more ready to happen. A cruel thing is horse racing with the horses injured and killed. Damn.. 🙁 I didn’t consider the ethics of it because it seemed helpful, I had no idea that was considered cruel. What about the ones with legs amputated? I’ve seen a few three legged horses wondering how they’re able to adjust I don’t know about horses, but for many cats and dogs missing a leg can lead to injuries in the other legs, shoulders, or hips, from trying to support the animal’s weight in a way that their body is not evolved to handle. I expect it would be even worse for horses since they’re so much more massive than cats and dogs.
