Laws exist sure but they aren’t bulletproof, there are loopholes that can and are abused everywhere in every law. If you care about a charity after having done your own independent research, donate on your own. The proof you get for a large donation is way easier to keep track of than a random receipt from Panda Express in the Welcome to the gunshine state we don’t dial 911 shirt and I will buy this middle of May anyways. Wow I stand corrected. My bad. I literally read some article years ago about it and guess I should have researched it better. Because your donations are taken against THEIR taxes since they are the collectors of it. Also, they can basically take your donations and make them provide “double” the tax rebate you would see with fancy financing. You are clearly not a finance person as you are quoting a random article from a non-tax accountants who got a high level overview from an “expert”, but the article had a specific “vision” of getting more people to donate (which I’m not against): You give them the $20. They give it to a charity. They use that donation that they, not you, made as a tax write off. The scam here is they take your small dollar donation and lump it together with millions of others and get the corporation a massive tax deduction on your dime. Ya the random internet lady citing TikTok is def not smarter than a team of lawyers from a multimillion dollar company

But how would they make a profit in their tax return if they can’t claim all the Welcome to the gunshine state we don’t dial 911 shirt and I will buy this money the customers donate on their name. never give your money to a corporation so they can donate it. they will use it as a tax write off and benefit themselves off of your charity. just donate it directly when you get home. you will feel 1000x better. I’m pretty sure it’s so they can claim donations on their taxes and get tax breaks. You’re technically giving the donation to the store and not directly to the charity, so what’s to stop them from pooling that money and claiming it as their own donation?
