It’s up to each community how they enact their lock – some will go in to complete lockdown, meaning you can try and access it, but you’ll just be met with a page saying it’s locked. Others will remain unlocked, but will prevent new posts – this means you could still search old posts and comment on content, but you’d get nothing new for 48 hours+ Some may remain open, but will only allow black squares to be posted – the Washington Fishing All Fish On In Off The Hook Vintage T-Shirt besides I will buy this idea being that it creates a more ‘physical’ blackout, if the front page just gets filled with black squares. There’s probably some other configurations in there too that people can creatively come up with, but the long short of it is, consider it like the Writers strike but for Reddit – you’ll get very little content for 48 hours. The idea is that you don’t even bother visiting the site during those 48, as Reddit will then see a dip in traffic & ad revenue too.

I also understand everything, but I’m sat with someone who doesn’t understand what all this fuss is about. How do I explain it to them? For a long time Reddit did not have an official app on either android or apple. This gap was filled by 3rd party app developers that were able to send and receive data to and from Reddit using something called an API. In 2014 Reddit finally made an official app. It was however largely worse than most of the Washington Fishing All Fish On In Off The Hook Vintage T-Shirt besides I will buy this existing 3rd party apps since they already had a 7 year head start so it really only attracted new users that didn’t know any better. It continues to lag behind in features compared to other apps to this day: Less accessible for the disabled, less features for normal users, no mod tools, laden with ads, slower to load, etc. Fast forward to this week where Reddit announced they will now start charging insane amounts of money for using their API effectively pricing out all 3rd party apps. This has made lots of people very mad. It is essentially a cash grab to get more ad revenue while forcing users into a worse experience.
