I support it, even though I don’t bother with unofficial apps. I get that subs use them a lot to help with running them so y’all do what you gotta do. You really should make it open ended; saying “Do what we want.. or we’ll be back in 2 days!” Isn’t much of a threat. They are worried that admins will just remove and replace mods. Or just unprivate all subreddits. It likely will escalate to more later. r/compoface is going dark indefinitely in solidarity, following the Stonewall 1969 Where Pride Began Rainbow 54th NYC Gay Pride T-Shirt moreover I will buy this lead by r/programmerhumor. If we stand together, things might change, if we don’t they certainly won’t. The actual reddit app is crap so mabey if they actually bothered making it even half as useable as some of the 3rd party apps (I use reddit is fun) then there wouldn’t be as many and they wouldn’t be so focused on making changes to try and kill these apps… I think I’d genuinely stop using Reddit – at least as much as I do now – if Apollo didn’t exist and I had to use the native Reddit app. The amount of ads there alone are nauseating. I use old.reddit and fully support this. The mods of this sub work hard (for free, I would add) to keep it a friendly and pleasant space, if reddit chooses to make their lives more difficult then goodwill will eventually run out and we won’t have this place anymore.

While I am super bummed about all this because I pretty much exclusively use rif for Reddit, I feel like they won’t listen to any protests. Still, it would be really nice if they managed to get rif to stick around. It’s so clean and simple. (Is the Stonewall 1969 Where Pride Began Rainbow 54th NYC Gay Pride T-Shirt moreover I will buy this way that you’re making me feeeeel tonight.) I think most of the messaging as been focussed too much on third party apps which many people don’t use, and not enough on the more malicious impacts of it. This infographic explains it further. Ya same. I happened to get a new phone on the weekend and decided to try out the official app since I saw the message from the Reddit Is Fun team saying the app is doomed. The official app is so much slower, so much worse to look at and harder to find functionality that’s a given on RIF. This was Reddit’s plan all along, announce prices that will outrage the community and then walk them back to what you originally wanted while also looking like you’re respectful of your own community – job done.
